Public Run Days

Free Rides

On the third Saturday of each month, March through November
and a few Select Sundays,
the members of Houston Area Live Steamers offer
FREE rides to the public on our track map


All ages are welcome to ride. No reservations needed, Just get in line and ride. The rides are about one mile in lenght and last 12-15 minutes. We have several club diesel engines that normally run the passenger trains, as well as private engines belonging to club members, but many times you will find a steam engine also running. We have specially designed cars for the young and the young at heart who enjoy hearing the clickety-clack of the rails.



We operate a large scale model railroad,
not an amusement park ride.
For your safety you must follow our safe riding rules.
Please follow train crew instructions at all times;
  • All passengers (including children) must be able to board the train without assistance from HALS membership.

  • Maximum allowed weight of 350 pounds per person and be able to board the train without assistance on to a straddle type riding car with seat width of 9”.

  • Remain seated during your ride.

  • While taking photographs or video be careful not to lean out.

  • Do not lean out and attempt to grab anything or you may disrupt the balance of the train.

  • Do not turn around in your seat. Always face forward.

  • Keep your feet on the footboards. Do not drag your feet, one foot on each side of the bench seat.

  • If the train stops outside the station, remain seated and listen to crew members’ instructions.

  • If you need the train to stop for any reason during the ride, just keep your hand raised and the crew will stop the train.

  • When returning to the station, remain seated until the engineer honks the horn once and the conductor blows their whistle once signaling it is safe to exit the train.
